I really began to feel like I could get a feel for the way he used language so the story was largely an experiment. Of course, all stories are personal taste, some more than others. No hard feelings on my part.Charles Gramlichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02052592247572253641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-55282503134540185.post-10141932461340649202009-12-22T10:27:03.912-08:002009-12-22T10:27:03.912-08:00Charles-- I haven't read it so I can't say...Charles-- I haven't read it so I can't say how I would respond to it. I love stories set at sea, but I don't run into more than a smattering of sailor lingo.

S.M.D-- I wouldn't ask you to. It was just my initial reaction. But honesty is always the best policy. And it seems that Charles understands that it's not for everyone.SQThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04251030404220909306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-55282503134540185.post-63653414877380908472009-12-22T10:21:03.476-08:002009-12-22T10:21:03.476-08:00Charles: I think taking it as a personal taste de...Charles: I think taking it as a personal taste deal might be best. Some may like the use of dialect; some will hate it. I'm sure a lot of folks hated the Howard books too :P.

SQT: I didn't know he was a friend. Not that that would change my criticism, but hmm.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13571452656553970472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-55282503134540185.post-37323551978232554012009-12-22T08:17:49.086-08:002009-12-22T08:17:49.086-08:00Well, at least my story wasn't in the forgotte...Well, at least my story wasn't in the forgotten "middle of the pack." lol.

The lingo certainly isn't for everyone. Since it's my one and only pastiche, the language is based, realistically, I hope, on the language that Robert E. Howard used in his Sailor Steve Costigan stories, which some people love and some folks hate. I don't ever use that kind of dialect approach in my own writing.

I started out disliking those stories in general myself, but later they grew on me and I began to find 'em pretty humorous. I've had other folks criticize the dialect, for sure, though.Charles Gramlichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02052592247572253641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-55282503134540185.post-38402667188116078832009-12-21T10:38:26.862-08:002009-12-21T10:38:26.862-08:00Ah, you're killing me with this.
