7 Days of Legends: The Adventures of Lanoree Brock, Je’daii Ranger

I actually missed today's entry when I was eagerly awaiting each new Dawn of the Jedi release. The Adventures of Lanoree Brock, Je'daii Ranger is missable, though. In fact, there is a good chance that this article is going to have a higher word count than the actual “story”. Published here in April of 2013, The Adventures of Lanoree Brock is a short piece with no credited author intended to advertise the Kindle release of Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void.

The Adventures of Lanoree Brock is not, in fact, an adventure of Lanoree Brock, Je'daii Ranger. If I had to guess, I would say that the title is the name of Lanoree's diary. The story is an entry in Lanoree's personal journal, around the time of the beginning of Into the Void as she receives her mission. It does not cover her speaking with the Je'daii Council; rather, it covers her thoughts after the fact about why she was chosen for the mission and why it was given to her in such a way.

These thoughts include bits of foreshadowing of the main story, which is the main point. Lanoree considers her brother Dal and her history with them, leaving it unspoken that he is related to her mission. She also thinks about her past and training, and mentions where she is headed to first.

In some books, The Adventures of Lanoree Brock, Je'daii Ranger would be included at the beginning of chapter 1, and I would not be surprised to find that Tim Lebbon wrote it as such before the single-paragraph journal entries from various characters at the start of each chapter was settled on as the chosen form of world-building and foreshadowing.

There is not much narrative need for this story, but on the other hand, it only takes a minute or two to read, is free to read, and is a functional part of Into the Void. Treat it as an extra page at the start of the novel, or disregard if you prefer; there is really nothing to lose either way.
