I don't know if I should admit this- I've never seen the original Tron. But I'm intrigued enough by this to maybe go back and watch the original and see if I want to watch the new one.
I think I liked the other trailer they put out better. I'll see this movie for nostalgic reasons if nothing else. Tron is one of those movies up there with Star Wars for me. Very hokey, but very formative for someone who decided to make a career out of software. As an aside, let me just add that my lifelong dream of being sucked into a video game has yet to be realized.
The original Tron was fantastically ahead of it's time. If you watch the original, remember things like the internet didn't exist - much of the terminology used in the film was not a part of normal everyday use (the way it is now) - it was way over the heads of many people who went to see it, and yet ultimately it's not a deep movie. I really liked Tron as a child, though I'm far more excited by this sequel than I even am to go back and see the original again (haven't seen it in years, but will probably get my son to see it before we go to Legacy in the fall).
