Who would you cast as 'Green Lantern'?

I'm not well-versed in Green Lantern mythology but if I had my way I'd probably pick Jared Padalecki to play the title character in the upcoming movie. Padalecki already has a superhero physique and his work on Supernatural has been good training ground. There's been talk that Brian Austin Green has been gunning for the role and Ryan Gosling's name has been tossed around. And if not Padalecki, I think Austin Nichols (One Tree Hill) could be a good fit. But who would you choose and why? Green Lantern has a reported $150 million budget and will be shot in Australia with a scheduled 2010 release.

You know, maybe it's my age, but I wouldn't pick any of these guys. I like the casting in movies like "Iron Man" and "Dark Knight." I like to see mature actors who are known for their acting skills more than their physique. Anyone can go to the gym and get buff enough for the role.

On the other hand. If I was going to pick an already buff actor, I'd go for Jason Statham. I think he could pull it off.

Tis a difficult question, I like Jared Padalecki but would he transition from TV to movie.

As they are doing Hal Jordan maybe Josh Duhamel, he was good in Transformers or Timothy Olyphant.

jason statham is too bald. josh duhamel might be good.

honestly, i like shawn ashmore. (the guy who did iceman in x-men.) maybe playing two different super-heroes isn't exactly kosher, but he would make a great green lantern, i think.

Jared Padalecki has too many vowels

Jason Statham too bald? ((sputter))

Just shave his head and he can go full Bruce Willis, or Vin Diesel.

I don't even know who these other guys are. At least Statham has recognition and talent.

Josh Duhamel is a good idea. Plus he was pretty buff in Win a Date With Tad Hamilton. Jason Statham just doesn't do it for me. I saw him in Transporter and I have no desire to see him in Crank.

I guess it's just me. But I think the pretty-boy choices won't do anything for the movie. Statham can act and that's always a better choice in my opinion. The kid that was in X-Men didn't add any value to the movie as far as I could see. He's just not charismatic enough to control the screen. I think that might be the case for a lot of TV actors.

Oh, I have to give props to Shadow Falcon. I like Timothy Olyphant. He definitely has charisma.

I have to agree on Timothy Olyphant as a good choice. Out of those mentioned, he seems to fit the bill a lot better.

As for Statham, I try to see ALL his movies, but to say he's a good actor... I suppose you could stretch a bit for that statement, because he does play that same character very well in every movie.

Tim

I see where you're going, but I'm going to defend Statham. He has done one serious film, The Bank Job in which he isn't the kung fu guy. I'm not invested in saying Statham isn't the only choice I'd pick, I just think he tends to be underrated.

I just added that to the top of my queue on netflix. I'll get back to you on that.

Cynnie, Seth Rogan is the writer and star of the Green Hornet. I think DC Comics have a higher standard than Seth Rogan, because they have to compete with Marvel Comics in the movie scene.

Noot slamming Seth Rogan, but he is not serious ass kicking superhero material.

I am disappointed that the Green Hornet isn't going to be a serious as it could be, though
