Kristin Kreuk is the new Chun-Li

Smallville's "Lana Lang" has just been cast as Chung-Li in the upcoming Street Fighter movie. According to the story will revolve around Kreuk's character as she "embarks on a quest for justice".

Could they be anymore vague? That pretty much leaves the door open for anything to happen. I'm not sure what to expect but considering the first movie with Jean-Claude Van Damme this version has nowhere to go but up. (Not that I didn't enjoy its cheesiness).

Ming-Na did a really good portrayal of Chin-Li so I'm hoping that Kreuk can take the the character to a new level and give her a fresh depth.

Either way, come 2009 I'll definitely be seeing this movie in theaters. What about you???

I like Kreuk a lot. she's not only a pretty decent actress, but quite attractive to look at. I'm not sure about her for this character though. But we'll see. And yes, the first movie would pretty much have to be improved upon.

My little brother asked me to post his comment since he doesn't have a blogger account so here it is:

"I would have agree with charles above(she's good actress, but her attractiveness is hypnosis like, jk)

The first movie came out in an era where spoof-videogame-movies(Mortal Kombat, Mario Bros, and etc.) could make money just on the name and imagination factor that the games provided. But in this era with the Superman's, and Batman returns, you need major S.Effects and real plots.

Well see in 09." -Tony

She won't be expecting Clark Kent to rescue her, will she?

I'm sure the writers' strike will in no way affect this film's release. They'll just tell this group of talented actors to make it up as they go along. Yeah...Street Fighter, that's a film that the world has been crying for. While they're at it, maybe they can story board "Skyfox", "Space Invaders", maybe "Donkey Kong". Films from videogames have such a sterling record, don't you think?

As for Kreuk? Yeah, like most actors on that network, she's certainly been chosen for her acting ability. Don't think I've ever seen a young actress saying the word "Uh.." so convincingly.

You don't like Jean-Claude Van Damme?

SQT, why do you hate freedom? :)

I'm afraid you'll have to ask Solshine since she wrote this particular post.

As far as Kreuk playing this character, I'm not sure. I agree she's a beauty but I'm not so sure about the acting chops. I only really know her from Smallville (and I haven't watched that in awhile) and I'm not sure the character really allowed her to stretch that much.

I guess we'll see...

Peter P, I like Van Damme. I was a big fan of his back in the day but I realize that he's no Tom Hanks when it comes to acting versatility. But that's okay. He worked with what he had.

I have to say, Kristin Kreuk's body is ok for Chung-Li, as she is somewhat fit, (although some claim anorexic) and has some asian features you can kinda tell.
After seeing the movie the only complaints were not incorporating enough Street Fighter poses/fighting stances/moves into the action.
She fought as if it were mortal kombat, not street fighter, thus making it less believable as a chung-li. Also The RED not blue fireball, the buns should have been up more often(her hair). The Street Fighter Costume should have been worn, and the HIGH pitched battle cries of chung-li were definitely needed. I'm not going into plot holes and other characters (m.bison& charlie most botched) just stating she could have pulled it off as chung-li with a few minor adjustments.
