For those of you living in Britain...

... life will once more become worth living this Saturday at 1900 GMT as Doctor Who returns on the BBC for season 3 of the new series! The Doctor (the not unattractive David Tennant) has got a new companion in the form of Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) and I am frankly getting a little bit over excited. My joy literally knows no bounds and so I will say nothing more to avoid making the post resemble a sort of giant, unsightly lovefest unsuitable for a family blog such as this.

Does anyone know when or if they are going to be airing the new season for the US? I check my channel guide every week for new Doctor Who eps but nothing is showing up on either the SciFi Channel or BBCAmerica. *pout*

Yeeeeeah finally! On Boxing Day they aired the first episode, but then nothing. Zip. Nada. I can't hardly wait. Although Christopher Eccleston isn't a bad actor or wasn't a bad Doctor, give me David Tennant! He's so ... enthousiastic about everything. I love Doctor Who! And I was sad that Rose had to go.

UFR - the best place to find out when Who is going to air in the states is www.gallifreyone.com

fab - did you see any of "The Sarah Jane Smith Adventures"? It was almost enough to tide me over...

No, Skippy, I haven't. But I must say that in Belgium, I can only watch BBC1 & 2, and I don't think I've seen it there. All the good stuff is aired on BBC3 and I don't have digital. I did see another spin-off "Torchwood", and altough I like listening to the accent of lead-star Gwen, it didn't get me hooked as Doctor Who. Maybe Sarah Jane is more like Dr Who and less Torchwood??? I'm interested in finding out!

Ok... I got hooked on the Who by a student of mine. I teach this freshman comp class at a college in Boston and the theme of the class is "Virtual Realities, Virtual Bodies: Technology and Identity". One of my students is writing her research paper on memory and machines, and is using the Dr. Who episode "Girl in the Fireplace". So I downloaded it on YouTube (or however you spell that) and watched it and LOVED IT! I immediately Netflixed all available seasons. I grew up on the original Who and this remake is as euqally entertaining... *sigh* if only I had cable and all the time in the world.

For those in the US, an advance story is that the Daleks will be invading Manhatten!

fab - a pilot episode of "The Sarah Jane Smith Adventures" was shown on New Year's Day on BBC1. It's going to have a full run from this May or June. It's actually supposed to be a children's show but then, technically, so is Who. I liked Torchwood, the other spin-off, but mostly because of Captain Jack...

tina - your course sounds fantastic! I taught a bioethics course at the UW-Madison, WI, on "Body Modifications" and I should SO have used Who. Was the essay any good?

jean-luc - It's true, the Daleks invade Manhattan! Yay! (Which surely means that the Cyberman invasion of Poughkeepsie is a dead-cert for next season)

It is making me mental that we are not seeing all the shows!
CBC co-pays for it too!

I am dying to see the Torchwood stuff and I miss Captain Jack sooo much!

Skippy,
she's just written the frist of four drafts of the paper, so it's incredibly rough. But it has a lot of potential! I've had the most fun teaching this class--I'm not really a techy tech person (I do alright and get by) and neither are most of my students but the dynamics of the class have been, well, dynamic. So many of the students have come up to me and been like, "You know, I thought about dropping this class cause I'm not, you know, really into sci-fi and tech stuff, but I'm glad I stuck around." It warms my little heart, I tell ya!

Which means we'll probably get it here in Australia sometime around 2009

No fair.

Skippy, I like Torchwood, I just expected it to be more Dr Who ... but then, I'd probably say they were too similar...

Yeah, Captaind Jack is hot, but unfortunately (the actor is gay - my silly dreams crushed) he keeps kissing guys in Torchwood. But then again, Gwen has kissed a girl or two as well ... it's a very open-minded show to say the least!

My hubs says Cap Jack isn't gay..just more open about who or what he kisses and canoodles with! Apparently that is the way of the future...

What I can't get over is that the actor is like in his 40's or something a looks in his 20's.

Sigh
