Who Comes Up With This Stuff?

When I think of super hero's I usually think of Superman, Spiderman, Batman-- you know, the strong manly type. But I found part of a comic book recently in some stuff that was in my parent's garage and it had the strangest "super hero" featured inside. As the picture suggests, his name is "The Bouncing Boy." Huh? The comic book I found was this one. Inside it featured the marriage of the Bouncing Boy to Duo Damsel (need I ask that we skip the threesome jokes?) As I came across this all I could think of was one thing. Who comes up with this stuff? Maybe it's me, but if I'm a super-villain, somehow I doubt a guy who can bounce is going to scare me all that much. I mean, if I'm trying to think up some cool superhero to add to the superhero pantheon, at what point does the Bouncing Boy come to mind? Is this after Acne Man and Wonder Bra Woman have been used up? And when it comes to fighting Bouncing Boy I'd be thinking, Hmmm, I'm a pretty fair hand at dodge ball, all I gotta do is get out of the way. But it is kind of fun to look at. I'd love it if anyone else out there remembers any odd super-hero's from the old comic books and wants to share your recollections. That's what I'm here for.

I used to be a big fan of the Legion of Super Heroes. Bouncing Boy always had an inferiority complex because he thought himself a 'lesser hero'.

Rose & The Thorn was a little known one I read.

Yeah, those LoSH heroes had some pretty lame powers, in my oppinion. They even had this guy who turned into a brick wall.

taking time out from sacrificing virgins in the hope of the correct elections results... if you want *really* whack superheroes, i suggest you visit:

www.superdickery.com

which is not a porn site, but rather an awesome collection of truly weird comic books covers - there's an entire section on rubbishy heroes called 'stupor powers' - be warned though, this site will take up hours of your time...

There is nothing worse than a lame superhero. It's one of the things that I loved about that Disney Film "Sky High". If you haven't seen it yet, then check it out. Cute and funny.

In the film students who attend a superhero school are seperated by their powers to either be heroes or sidekicks. My favorite "Sidekick" was a kid who was able to turn into a quivering puddle at will. Not a real useful power.

I know this is a rip off of X's Academy for Mutants, but it was fun. So what the heck?

That site is hilarious. I loved the section that showed all the comic book covers of Superman being a "dick," hence the name of the site. You're right, you could lose hours there.

I haven't seen that movie because I really hadn't heard anything about it. It sounds cute. My kids would probably like it too.

I thought it would be interesting to go through the X men and see if there were any that were as lame as a Bouncing Boy. I'm not aware of any now. I don't know if it was more of an "old school" thing or not.

Sky High was awesome. It's on my list of movies to buy, and I think I'm going to add it to my christmas list, just to be safe! I highly recommend it, not really for plot, but just for silly fun :)
